Cover, Repair or Replace? Sofa Cost Calculator
A clearer starting point · Australian dollars
Your sofa may need a new look, repair work or a complete replacement. Enter your own prices and quotes to compare the upfront cost of each option. Check the work and coverage included as well as the total.
A cover changes the appearance or adds a removable layer; any protection depends on the product’s stated features. It does not repair the frame, springs or cushions. This calculator compares costs, not the condition of your sofa.
What to check before entering costs
- Use amounts in Australian dollars for the option you would actually buy.
- For a cover, confirm the selected pieces, sizes and quantities. The price of one piece may not cover the whole sofa.
- For repair or reupholstery, use a written quote that says which materials and work are included.
- For replacement, use the price of the selected sofa or configuration.
- Include any separately charged delivery, collection, removal or other costs relevant to that option. Do not add a charge twice if it is already included.
What would you like to change?
This tool compares entered costs. It does not assess the condition of your sofa.

How the maths works
- Cover
- Add each item’s unit price × quantity, then add separate delivery.
- Repair or reupholstery
- Quoted work + separate collection and return transport.
- Replacement
- Sofa price + separate delivery + disposal of the old sofa.
- Difference
- Cover total − the repair or replacement total you select. A negative result means the entered cover total is lower.
Add one-off cover extras as a separate item with quantity 1. Include any other repair or replacement charges in the matching quote or sofa price, and keep a note of what that amount covers. If an amount is unknown or invalid, that option stays incomplete; the amount entered so far is not a full total.
All calculations use cents. They compare upfront costs only, without estimating future costs, lifespan or resale value.
Check the fit before you buy
A lower total is only one part of the decision. Compare the work or coverage included, how the sofa feels, whether it suits your room and the care involved. If you are unsure about damage or repair suitability, ask the sofa maker or a qualified repairer before spending.
For a cover, confirm the measurements, package contents and care instructions for your exact selection. An under-$100 starting price does not guarantee a whole-project total under $100.
A few useful questions
Can a sofa cover replace repair work?
A cover can change the surface appearance or add a removable layer. It does not repair the frame, springs or cushions. If the sofa has a condition or comfort problem, get advice on that separately before comparing costs.
What should I include in the cover total?
Include the selected pieces or set and the quantity you need, plus any separately charged delivery or extras. Check the package contents first: a listed price may be for one seat, back or arm piece rather than a complete sofa set.
How do I compare a repair quote with a replacement price?
Check exactly what each amount includes. A repair quote may cover particular materials or work, while a replacement price may exclude delivery or removal. Add relevant separate charges once, and keep any unknown costs marked as incomplete.
Does a lower entered total tell me which option to choose?
No. A lower total only compares the amounts you supplied. It does not assess the sofa’s condition, comfort, repair suitability, cover fit or expected lifespan. Compare those practical questions before deciding.
Does an under-$100 cover mean the whole project costs under $100?
No. The selected size, pieces, quantity and any separate delivery or extras determine your total. Use the price for the exact cover plan you need rather than treating a starting price as the full project cost.
