Compare sofa covers by what they cover, how they fit your sofa’s shape and what the selected option includes. A two-seater or three-seater label alone cannot settle those questions. Start with the exact product’s size guide, then use the two-option worksheet below to compare your shortlist.
It keeps the questions for cover A and cover B together, so a missing measurement or an unclear pack is easier to spot before ordering.
Three common approaches to covering a sofa
These descriptions can overlap: a fitted set may contain separate pieces, and a loose-fitting set is not necessarily a throw. The item’s own description decides what you are comparing.
Fitted cover or slipcover
Shaped for a stated sofa, cushion or furniture model; it may be one cover or a set.
Measure: every dimension requested in that item’s diagram, including its specified start and finish points.
Confirm: the sofa model or supported shape, cushion construction and areas included. A matching width alone leaves other fit questions unanswered.
Separate pieces
Individual covers or panels let you compare coverage area by area, whether sold separately or together.
Measure: each intended seat, back, arm or chaise area using the selected piece’s instructions.
Confirm: each piece’s shape, size and quantity. Piece count is not seat count: one seat-cover piece may cover several cushions.
Throw or draped cover
A piece laid over selected surfaces rather than shaped around each cushion.
Measure: the coverage routes the item specifies, including across the sofa and over the back or seat where relevant.
Confirm: the actual fabric dimensions and intended drape. Do not add an assumed tucking allowance or choose by sofa width alone.
Check protection separately. Water resistance describes a product claim, not a fit format. Do not infer it from a cover’s shape, stretch or number of pieces; read the selected item’s stated protection and care information.
Before you compare two options
- Name the areas you want covered. Seats only, or also backs, arms, frame and chaise? Keep that aim the same for both options.
- Read each measuring diagram. Record its endpoints and units. “Width” could describe different parts of the sofa in different guides. Our illustrated sofa measuring guide helps you prepare.
- Check construction and shape. Note fixed or removable cushions, curved or square arms, and any unusual cushion outline. Ask about a shape the diagram does not show.
- Match the selected option to its package details. List the named pieces and quantities; a styled photograph does not tell you what your selection contains.
Put the comparison in context
A straight sofa with removable cushions
Compare a shaped set with individual cushion options. Check whether the backs, arms and frame are included in either choice. Do not assume each cushion needs one purchased piece; read the package breakdown.
A chaise or modular lounge
Sketch the arrangement and mark the areas you want covered. Compare each option with that layout, including joins and the chaise. Follow its orientation diagram rather than assuming what “left” or “right” means.
A sofa with fixed cushions or reclining seats
Flag the construction before comparing covers. A removable-cushion diagram may not describe your sofa. For reclining furniture, confirm compatibility with the furniture manufacturer and cover seller before ordering.
Your two-option comparison worksheet
Use one sofa and one coverage aim. Keep measurements beside the matching product instructions, in the same units. These are editable notes, with no submit button or automatic fit result. Copy or print your entries before leaving; entries may not remain when you return.
Leave a missing specification marked “confirm”. A blank field is a question to resolve, not evidence that a cover will fit. For more fit resources, visit the Sofa Decor Fit Lab.
Turn any gaps into a clear question
Copy this checklist into your message to Sofa Decor, filling in the details for the option you are considering:
- The product link and exact size or option selected.
- Your sofa layout, cushion construction and areas to cover.
- Your measurements, units and the endpoints used.
- The package contents you understand are included.
- The specific shape, size or quantity detail you need confirmed; have clear sofa photos ready.
