Choose the job before choosing the throw
Shopping for sofa throws in Australia can mean two quite different things: a decorative layer over one corner, or a larger draped cover across the back, seat and arms. Decide which job you want the fabric to do before comparing a room photograph with your own lounge.
A throw gives you freedom to choose the folds and overhang. It also means you need to plan the coverage yourself, rather than expect a rectangular piece to behave like a fitted replacement cover.
About this guide: Sofa Decor is a retailer. The four styles below are current examples from our own range, compared using published design and size details. This is not independent hands-on testing or a ranking of every Australian seller.
Measure two routes across the sofa
Measure the fabric path you want in both directions. Across the sofa, include the seat, any fabric passing over the arms and the side drop you prefer. From front to back, follow the route over the backrest, through the seat and towards the front edge.
Keep the furniture measurements separate from your chosen drops and folds. Then compare both required fabric lengths with both sides of the selected throw. Turning a rectangle changes which side runs across the sofa; it does not create more fabric.
“Throw” is not a standard coverage size. For example, IKEA lists a SÖRBYSKOGEN throw at 130 × 170 cm, while the larger Sofa Decor examples below offer different dimensions. Compare the actual rectangle, not just the category name or the number of seats.
Our sofa measuring guide helps you record the shape and chosen coverage before ordering.

Four current Sofa Decor styles to compare
These are different visual directions, not claims about tested warmth, grip or protection. Use the current selector for the exact colour and size, and confirm the purchase contents if coordinating cushions or accessories matter.
Milano: fine ribbing and a quieter pattern
Milano Ribbed Fringe Sofa Throw Cover combines fine ribbing with fringed edges and a loose drape. Current Colour labels are Cocoa Brown, Warm Greige, Charcoal Black and Cloud Grey.
Compare Milano when you want the surface detail to come from ribbing rather than a large motif. It offers 180 × 260 cm, 180 × 340 cm and 180 × 420 cm sizes. Choose by the fabric coverage and the place you want the fringe to finish.
Como: raised texture with dark fringe
Como Textured Boucle Fringe Sofa Throw Cover has a raised surface, dark fringe and a relaxed shape across the sofa. The refreshed selector currently lists Warm Taupe, with the same three listed sizes: 180 × 260 cm, 180 × 340 cm and 180 × 420 cm.
Compare Como for a more visibly raised surface. The description also contains a Charcoal Grey reference, but that colour is not currently selectable; use the live selector rather than assume every photographed option can be ordered.
Valencia Boho: bold angular geometry
Valencia Boho Jacquard Sofa Throw uses black lines, diamonds and angular shapes, with raised texture in a loose drape. Colour labels include Beige, Light Grey, Dark Grey, Orange and green.
Compare Valencia when you want a stronger geometric pattern. Its six listed Specification options run from 180 × 130 cm through 180 × 180, 180 × 230, 180 × 260 and 180 × 300 cm to 180 × 340 cm. The smaller options deserve their own coverage check; they are not interchangeable whole-sofa sizes.
Aurelia Floral: branching motifs and fringe
Aurelia Fringed Floral Jacquard Sofa Throw Cover pairs branching florals with fringed edges. Ochre Bloom has warm brown and cream florals with golden fringe; Charcoal Bloom pairs dark and cream florals with contrasting fringe.
Compare Aurelia when you prefer botanical pattern to straight ribbing or angular geometry. Its listed sizes are 180 × 260 cm, 180 × 340 cm and 180 × 420 cm. Check how much of the motif and fringe will remain visible in your intended arrangement.

Separate appearance from material and performance
A product name can help you understand the look without providing a complete material specification. Ribbing, a raised surface or a jacquard pattern does not, by itself, tell you every fibre in the finished throw.
If a particular fibre matters, ask for the full composition before ordering. Use close-up photographs to compare visible surface detail, pattern scale, borders and fringe; ask for clarification where a colour or finish looks different between images.
Do the same for practical requirements. A decorative couch cover is not automatically waterproof, non-slip, scratch-resistant or suitable for a particular leather finish. Choose those features only from the exact product’s supporting information. The throws here are being compared for documented appearance, dimensions and draped format.

Buy a throw you can care for in your own home
Ask for the complete cleaning and drying instructions, then think about the space needed to handle your chosen size. A large rectangular cover needs a practical removal, cleaning and drying plan, not just a place in a product photograph.
Sheridan’s throw-care guidance also directs shoppers to the care label for drying instructions. That is a useful principle, not permission to transfer another retailer’s wash method to a Sofa Decor product.
Follow the supplied care label. Do not infer machine-washing or tumble-drying permission from the word throw. If easy laundering is central to your choice, use our washable-cover buying checklist before committing.
Compare the complete purchase, not the styled set
Room images help you see the design, but they can include cushions, furniture and more fabric than the selected item supplies. Confirm what the chosen option includes before copying the entire arrangement.
Keep the exact size and colour together when comparing current prices. If your corner lounge needs more than one draped rectangle, work out each piece and quantity first. An attractive starting price for a smaller option is not the cost of every coverage plan.
For a sofa away from the wall, decide whether you want the rear covered as well. For a chaise, check the separate lengths and the drape around the change in direction. A larger rectangle may suit one arrangement, while another needs a different plan.

Use a simple buying checklist
Before adding a throw to your cart, check:
- Coverage: both required fabric routes match the selected dimensions, with your intended folds and drops.
- Appearance: the current colour, pattern scale, edge and fringe suit the look you want.
- Contents: you know which item and quantity you are buying, including whether accessories are supplied.
- Care: you have the cleaning and drying instructions and a workable plan for that size.
Send your sofa photographs and measurements if any part is unclear. Ask about the exact option rather than a general “three-seater throw”, because arm height, seat depth and the intended rear coverage change the fabric route.

Start with the style you like, then confirm the fit
For a quieter finish, compare Milano’s ribs or Como’s raised texture. For a stronger motif, compare Valencia’s geometry with Aurelia’s branching florals. Those visual choices become more useful once the dimensions, purchase contents and care routine are settled.
Browse the Sofa Decor cover range for the current options, or read the Australian sofa-cover buying guide if you are still choosing a format. A well-planned throw should look deliberate on your own sofa, rather than depend on reproducing a showroom photograph.
Frequently asked questions
What size sofa throw do I need for a three-seater?
Measure the two fabric routes over the areas you want covered, including the arms, back and desired drops. Compare both totals with the selected throw’s dimensions. Three-seater alone is not enough to establish the required rectangle.
Will a large sofa throw cover the back and arms?
Only if its dimensions and your intended arrangement provide that coverage. Back height, arm width, folds and overhang all use fabric. Measure the rear as well if the sofa sits away from the wall.
Can I machine wash these Sofa Decor throws?
Follow the care label supplied with the selected product. The current examples direct shoppers to that label; this guide does not establish a universal washing or drying setting.
Does a sofa throw include the cushions in its photograph?
Do not assume so. Check the selected option’s contents and quantity. Coordinating cushions and other styling accessories should be confirmed separately before ordering.
